Draft of website so far...

#2

This is the what the homepage of website looks like so far, I've gone for a pink/pastel colour house style; obviously the video featured on the homepage is the Rihanna deconstructed video that Chelsie, Ruby and myself deconstructed, but you get the idea!

Also, I will make 1-2 more drafts, so I have different options to choose from and I also will get audience feedback on each to see which appeals the most.

Update...

I am now in the process of creating the first draft of my website's homepage. As you can see I've been looking at existing artists website's from the same or similar genre to give me an insight into what already exists and how I can modify my website to contain similar features.

Existing official websites!

http://www.palomafaith.com/gb/home/

Paloma Faith's website has original drawings scanned into Photo Shop and then put onto her website's homepage, this adds to the originality and abstract image that Faith always creates; in general it would appear that the website appeals to her target audience because of the abstract image, and the unconventional features that have been applied upon the website.

http://florenceandthemachine.net/

Florence and The Machine's website is similar to Faith's in the respect that there are original hand drawn images featured on the homepage of the website. What's noticeable for Welch's website is that there is a clear and consistent house style (green, grey and gold) thus helping the audience to establish the artist's and website's aim. Links are clearly identifiable and so are videos and images too. The website is also laid out in the style of a blog, which is great for fan's wanting to keep up take with the latest information on Welch!
http://www.marinaandthediamonds.com/

This website is also set out in the style of a blog and it again has a clear and consistent house style too. The photograph of the artist is used as part of the background and layout, which adds to the more real 'ness' and authenticity from Marina reaching out to her fans. I like the way in which the links (to other websites) are clearly featured down the right hand side of the homepage.
http://www.paolonutini.com/

Nutini's homepage for his website again embeds and genuine photograph of himself- promoting his European tour as well as featuring drawn images scanned into the computer, and again like Welch's and Faith's website reveals the artist's personality and unique 'ness'. Making the website a little more unprofessional is the layout of the page, it's unclear as to where the links are and what else is featured on the website.
http://twodoorcinemaclub.com/

This website is a little more symmetrical and a-line, but because it is so plain it is appealing; everything is clear and easy to find (e.g. the links for photos and news') I like the way in which there are only 4 different colours used for the house style and it is therefore consistent because of this. Some people would/could argue that the website is a little boring and ineffective, though!

I've now downloaded the first draft of my music video and uploaded it to YouTube, rather than it being on my phone!

It's the first draft of my music video, some shots are not that great so I will be re-shooting them; also because there are many blank spaces in my video this mean that I will be adding more to the video too.

What I still need to do...

  • Put new photographs of cast on blog
  • Shoot the 'town' shot
  • Shot of angels and clock
  • Shot of angels and Vicky pointing ‘upside down’
  • Shot of Vicky walking up hill
  • Photographs of locations on blog
  • Shoot the 'confetti' shots
  • Photographs that are to be used for ancillary texts

First draft of my music video...

This is the first and initial draft of my music video, you cannot see it very well because I had to film it with my phone, but you can grasp what I am trying to achieve!

I'm now going to be changing this and uploading the proper draft of my video it onto Youtube...

Update...

This morning I 'officially' began editing my shots; I spent 40 minutes editing the 'test' footage and later today, I will upload what I have done (BEWARE! it's not much and is also very bad quality, but at least I know what I need to rectify and re-shoot before January!)

Update...

On Monday (3/12/12) I uploaded all of the footage from last weekend. I've now named all of the shots and currently in the process of editing it, when I can because unfortunately as there are only 8 editing suites it's very hard to get onto my allocated suite when I need/want it. So this may take longer than anticipated and want.
Today I spent 45 minutes uploading and editing.

General music video information and facts...

Update...

Unfortunately the media technician hasn't been available when I intended to upload my footage, all this week; so I haven't been able to upload any of the footage I filmed on Sunday (25/11/12), I am now hoping to upload it all on Monday and begin to edit soon after.

What's changed..

When I filmed on Sunday (25/11/12) I had to change some shots that I had originally planned this was because where I was filming, the lighting wasn't as I'd originally hoped; so I had to change the angle of the some shots as well as the performance element too.

Monday 26 November 2012

Revised timetable for the next week

Update...

This Sunday (25/11/12) I filmed some test shots for my video as well as some shots I hope to use in my actual video. I started filming around 2 pm until 3.30 pm; I was going to film outside but it was raining so I had to just film inside my house.
The cast got to my house at 12.30 pm to get ready, firstly I curled their hair and back combed it, then Catherine applied their eye shadow-to look really abstract, she put green onto one eye and purple onto another eye. I then put some sticky gold stars onto each angels face to get the original effect I wanted (see image and comparison photo of cast.)

We filmed for an hour and a half, this was mostly of the initial shots for my video and also group shots of the angels too.
I then filmed some extra shots that I want to use instead of what I originally planned, I now think they look better than what I planned to shoot.

Filming day #1 (25/11/12)

Props, make-up and anything else I'm going to use!

Make-up:
When all of the cast met on 6/11/12 I experimented with different hair and make-up designs, I came to the conclusion that I would need to buy some bright eye shadow and red lipstick too; this was because I want their faces to stand out in an elaborate and charismatic way.

Props:
I have a range of props that I'm going to be using in my video. They are the following:

  • Angel wings
  • Halo's
  • Confetti
  • Paper plates
  • Road sign
  • Clock
  • Hill
  • School chairs
  • Dining table
  • Food

Update...

I have now finished making the angel wings and halo's, and unfortunately I haven't had chance to film yet, this is partly due to the weather but also because of how long it took me to gather the material for the angel wings and consequently make them, therefore this has set back the time of shooting my video.
I have now arranged to film this Sunday (25th November). I have no other choice than to film inside because it is forecast to rain (see image) As I previously stated it will be possible to film inside, it just wasn't my original plan.

Wednesday 21 November 2012

The making of...

The angel wings:

1. Firstly I bought some A1 size white card, silver glitter spray paint and Velcro.
2. Next I then made a stencil of the angel wings, drew around them and cut 4 sets out.
3. Then I spray painted just one side of the wings, this was because the spray paint cost £3.50 and it ran out really quickly, therefore it wouldn't be very cost effective. It still looks stylistic and fitting with my theme and in the correct lighting contrast it will glow and sparkle how I intended..
4. As they are quite delicate, I will attach them to the angel outfit when I'm filming.

The halo's:

1. I gathered together some silver and white pipe cleaners, silver tinsel, 4 white headbands, scissors and some pliers.
2. Firstly, I manipulated 2 pieces of tinsel into a circle that I felt was just the right size to stand out above the angel's heads.
3. Then, I wrapped one full length of the tinsel around the pipe cleaners.
4. Next, I wrapped the white pipe cleaners around the top and sides of the halo's and then onto the top of the headbands.
5. I only attached two pipe cleaners to either side of the halo's and it didn't feel very stable, so therefore I attached two more pieces of pipe cleaner to the back and front of the halo's, consequently they stayed in position when I tried them on ready for the angel's to wear.

Ancillary texts initial research (digipak)

Here are 4 different digipak designs from existing albums/songs, they are all from the indie and alternative genre which will help me when it comes to producing my digipak design. I'm hoping to take elements of some of these designs featured, especially the explosion of colour and 'wacky' designs on the 'Mika' digipak.

Where I will film:

The main part of my video will be filmed in my house, we have a plain white wall in our kitchen as well as the living room, so depending on what time of day it is when I'm filming and I believe that when the lighting is right the contrast of the footage will look great. I’m also going to be filming two shots on a hill near my house too, it’s convenient for my cast to get there and the footage will look appealing because of the scenery surrounding the hill. I have also made provisional plans to film some footage in my back garden - pending weather conditions and lighting too, as I am filming around Christmas time I am hoping for it to snow so I can film in corresponding weather conditions to the genre of my video, if it does not snow then I can easily change my plans to film indoors instead.

(photos of my locations will appear shortly...)

This is Springhead lane, where I hope to film the long shot of Vicky walking up the hill, it is only a single shot that lasts for roughly 5 seconds so we hopefully won't need to be on location for long.
This is my living room in which I began filming in, I'm going to be using it again because we have a white wall, which is great to use for the close up and medium close up shots, because it makes the make-up and outfits of the angels stand out effectively.

Animatic

I feel my animatic gives an insight into how, at this stage I envisage my video to be.

I understand that in some places the timing of some shots are a little out of time; obviously this is because I have only edited it on Windows Movie Maker and this will be rectified when I'm filming the shots and editing them too.

Another point to note is that there will be a lot more colour and mise-en-scene features in my actual video too, and my animatic only gives a basic outline as to what to expect when my video is edited together.

I also feel that when I'm filming, some shots will not work out as well I as originally planned and I will have to rectify this when filming and editing, for example I already feel that I maybe over-using: lip synching and medium close ups of the main character, so I will therefore have to alter this when filming and change the cinematography techniques planned.
