Genre is a type or category.
It differentiates
between one sort of text to another, by the use of different codes and conventions.
- It helps create a choice – therefore a target audience for the producer of the text.
- It also helps create recognition within the audience of what the text (or expectations of the text should be).
Convention: Things that the audience would expect to be in that particular
media texts e.g horror: evil laughing.
Codes: - An item: then you read into it.
Once the code is used over and over it then becomes a convention.
Denotations – Newsreader tapping
papers on desk.
Connotations – The end.
